Opera Siam and Siam Philharmonic, with the cooperation of the Department of Cultural Promotion (Thailand Ministry of Culture) announce a major cooperation with Festa Musicale in conjunction with the Grand Prix Pattaya 2013 Choir Competition:
GUSTAV MAHLER: SYMPHONY OF A THOUSAND
Symphony No. 8 in E flat
with choirs from around the world
and the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra and Siam Sinfonietta
and internationally renowned operatic soloists from four continents
conducted by Somtow Sucharitkul
July 23-24, 2013
Choirs are invited to participate in a thrilling four-day workshop culminating in two performances of Gustav's Mahler's masterpiece in the Thailand Cultural Center, one of the most prestigious venues in Southeast Asia, under the baton of Maestro Somtow. Adult and children's choirs are invited. It is a chance in a lifetime to participate in one of the iconic works of the repertoire.
Participating choirs pledge to work on the music before arrival and will then spend several days refining the interpretation under the Maestro. There are plans for optional voice workshops for choirs and soloists in addition to the rehearsals for Mahler's Eighth Symphony.
Performing in Mahler's massive Eighth, with its setting of the hymn "Veni Creator Spiritus" and the climactic final scene of Goethe's Faust, is one of the ambitions of choristers around the world. Performances are rare because as many as one thousand performers may be called for.
This is a wonderful add-on event for the Pattaya Festa Musicale and is not to be missed!
