The mixed choir of the Klaipėda Music Centre “Aukuras” was established in 1993 at the choral community of the Klaipėda city.
The choir consists of 30 - 35 permanent members. All of them have higher education, although music is not the main source of living for the majority of the choir members.
The choir, via its extensive and diverse activities, as if breaks the stereotype of the choir music being as very boring and too serious. Spectacular performances, participation in various competitions and festivals, concert tours within Lithuania and abroad attract new people to the choir, which has recently celebrated its 15 years anniversary. Due to its artistry and very democratic repertoire the choir has become very popular among the public. The music professionals also highly evaluate a rich sounding of the choir, good intonation and performance of modern and technically very complex pieces which are performed by the choir with a special enthusiasm.
During seventeen years of its existence “Aukuras” had more than 400 concerts in Lithuania and abroad and recorded two CD’s. The concerts were held in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Sweden, Poland, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, USA, Canada.
